June 2015 – Letter from Truman
Hi, Kids!
Have you ever wondered how the World Wide Web got started? I have. Here is a clue. It happened in Switzerland in a place called Cern. It’s an interesting story. You can read all about it in the “Connections” section.
Alberto Giacometti was from Switzerland. He is known for his sculptures of human forms. They look a lot like stick people. He also loved to draw and paint. He lived from 1901 to 1966 and was influential as an artist. Just last month, on May 11, 2015, Giacometti’s sculpture “Pointing Man” sold for $114 million at auction. That’s right — $114 million! Read more about him in “Cultural Connections.”
What kind of animals do you think live in Switzerland? Check out “Wildville” to learn about an animal called the chamois.
