 Arts And Crafts Fun
Pine Cone Owls
This autumn activity begins with an outdoor nature walk and ends with an indoor craft activity. Materials: Several pine cones (some short and some longer) Pine needles Two acorn tops with stems Glue (Elmer’s is okay, and use hot glue only with adult supervision)
Directions: Using sand paper, flatten the bottom of a short, squat pine cone so that the owl will not fall over. Glue two scales removed from the larger pine cone to the bottom of the owl for the feet. Fold another scale in half, and glue close to the top for the beak. Add the eyes by gluing the acorn tops on either side of the beak. Finish by adding a few pine needles for feathers. You can attach your owl to a pine branch or clothespin.
Children can also enjoy hands-on art activities by enrolling at PFAC’s Studio Art School classes and workshops. Information about activities for youth and adults is available at PFAC or online at www.pfac-va.org.
