Don't Get the Back-to-School Blues!
It's August and time to think about going back to school. Going back to school can be very exciting. Youll get to see your friends, learn new things, and get out of the house every day. But you might also be a little nervous about the start of the new school year and the changes involved.
Here are a few tips to help you get excited about school:
- The National Association for the Education of Young Children suggests that parents and kids view school as an exciting adventure. It really is an adventure you get to meet new people, do new things, and learn about the world!
- Set up play dates with some children who will be in your class. This is a way to reconnect with friends and relieve some anxiety. Remember, school isnt all about work, but also about making friends.
- Try out your new routine. School usually requires that you wake up earlier, which means you probably need to go to bed earlier. Try out the new school night bedtime a week or so before school starts. Practice the new rising time also (maybe even get a new alarm clock!).
- Go shopping! Many states have special days when you can shop for school clothing and supplies tax-free, which your parents will appreciate. Have your parents check with your local sales tax department or mall to find out the details. If uniforms are required at your school, you can add a personal touch with a special book bag, hair accessories, watch, or wallet.
